Frank Gene McCarrey

Mr. Frank "Gene" McCarrey of Centralia, departed this life at Centralia Manor in Centralia, Illinois, on Sunday, April 7, 2019 at 10:09 AM. He had attained the age of 97 years and 9 days. Mr. McCarrey was born March 29, 1922 in Centralia and was the son of Ralph and Anna (Heed) McCarrey. He was united in marriage to Virginia Lowry on November 2, 1952 and she survives his passing. Gene served in the United States Army and obtained a purple heart. He was a member of the Mason and Shriners, and Kiwaniis Club, where he enjoyed participating and capturing pictures of students receiving awards in the Bring Up Grades "Bug" Program. He was also a member of the First United Methodist Church and the Crusaders Sunday School Class. Gene retired from Illinois Power Company in 1983, and was inducted into the Kaskaskia College Basketball Hall of Fame in 2016. He enjoyed spending time with family and entertaining everyone with his numerous personality. Left to mourn his passing is his wife, Virginia McCarrey of Centralia; two children: Miriam Furlong and husband Bobby and Douglas McCarrey both of Centralia; seven grandchildren: Jennifer McCarrey, David McCarrey and wife Casey, Sara McCarrey, Heather Beal and husband Tony, Haley Wisniewski and husband Jason, Lindsay Wilson and husband Josh, and Drew Furlong and fiancé Amanda Minor; and twelve great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents, three sisters: Eleanor Glenn, Florence List , and an infant sister, and his son, Bill McCarrey. Graveside Services for Frank "Gene" McCarrey will be held Friday, April 12, 2019 at 2:00 PM at the Hillcrest Lakeside Chapel in Centralia with Rev. Anita Munden officiating. Entombment will follow at the Hillcrest Lakeside Mausoleum. Military Honors will be accorded at the gravesite by the American Legion Post 446 and V.F.W. Post 2055.
