David Leroy Elliott

David Leroy Elliott, 77, of Centralia, passed away Saturday, December 14, 2013 at his home surrounded by his family. He was born September 4, 1936 in Granite City IL, son of David Allen Elliott and Edna (Beasley) Elliott. He married Shirley (Walling) Elliott on May 11, 1964 in Dallas Texas. He is survived by his wife of 49 years, three sons: Jim Elliott of Ft. Lauderdale, Florida, Jeff Elliott of Centralia, and Mike Elliott and wife Lauren of Collinsville Illinois; one granddaughter Brianna Baker of Collinsville; one grandson Spencer Elliott of Collinsville Illinois; three sisters: Daphine Draege and husband Mike of Centralia, Debbie Wofford and husband Billy of Sandoval, Nancy Kinney of Junction City; one brother Duane Elliott and wife Becky of Centralia; two sister-in-laws: Margie Walling of Canton, Texas, Kathleen Thompson of Ft. Worth, Texas, and several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents, an infant son Larry Elliott, and two sisters: Edna Farnsworth and Deanna Baker, two brother-in-laws: Dallas Kinney and Jerry Walling, and a niece Debby Hamburg. He graduated from Centralia Township High School in 1954 and went to Centralia Junior College for one year. He joined the Air Force Reserves from May of 1954 to May of 1956. He enlisted into the U.S. Marine Corps on May 4, 1956 and served his country over 20 years retiring on August 1, 1976 with the rank of First Sergeant. He also served 14 months in Vietnam. He then moved back to Centralia in 1976 where he attended Kaskaskia College for one year and worked at Rockwell/Cambridge for 18 years until he became ill. He enjoyed fishing, making Jewlery, and playing with his English Bulldog Cindy. He also enjoyed spending time with his family. . Following cremation, Per David’s wishes a celebration of life service will be held at 10:00 A.M. on Saturday December 21, 2013 at Hillcrest Lakeside Chapel with military rites accorded at the graveside by the American Legion Post 446 and VFW Post 2055. Interment will follow at Hillcrest Memorial Park in Centralia. Memorials may be made to the Kaskaskia Veterans Tribute, The American Cancer Society, or the American Red Cross and will be accepted at the funeral home.
