Candice Anne Kindred

Candice A. Kindred, 64, of Centralia died at 12:10pm Thursday, May 16, 2013 at St. Mary's Hospital in Centralia after a courageous battle with cancer. She was born February 9, 1949, in Centralia, the daughter of Dean and Norma (Dueker) Simmons. Candice is survived by her mother Norma Simmons of Centralia. Her daughter Miriam Kindred and fiancé Mark Bylsma of St. Charles, MO; one grandson Chris Bylsma; one brother Mark Simmons and wife Martha (Faught) of Mt. Vernon; one sister Karin Manning of Springfield; one sister-in-law Marilyn and husband Bill Simmons of Congerville; 5 nieces and nephews, Caitlin Darling and husband Mike of Springfield, Ben Manning of Chicago, Sheila Pickens and husband Brad of Paxton, Jeff Simmons of Mt. Vernon, Laura Treber and husband Mike of Carlock; 6 great nieces and nephews Liam, Olivia, Vivien, Sydney, Wyatt and Madison; and a cousin Tom Simmons and wife Linda of Centralia. As well as many other close family and friends. She was preceded in death by her father Dean Simmons. She was a faithful member of Zion United Church of Christ where she was the church secretary for almost 25 years. Until her death she worked as a tenant case worker for Marion County Housing Authority. Her co-workers were like a second family and helped support her through her illness. She was also an active Mary Kay Consultant and until she became ill she worked with the Family Success Program at Kaskaskia College. Candice was loved by everyone who crossed paths with her. She had a great spirit and an energetic attitude toward life, always looking for the silver lining or lesson to learn. Candice had an affinity for children; playing “fairy godmother” to the many children in her life was her greatest joy. She loved her family and friends dearly and loved spending time with them. Candice was a beloved mother, daughter, grandmother, sister, aunt and friend who will be missed dearly. A celebration of life service will be held on Saturday, June 22, at 2:00 PM at Zion United Church of Christ in Central City with Pastor Lou Fluck officiating. Memorials can be made to the Zion United Church of Christ building fund and will be accepted at the funeral home.
