Karen S. Marcum

Karen S. Marcum, 77 of Centralia passed away Friday, December 12, 2014 at St. Mary’s Hospital in Centralia. She was born April 26, 1937 in West Frankfort, daughter of Leo Killion and Ruth (Caraway). She married George S. Marcum on September 29, 1956 at the First Christian Church (Disciples of Christ) in Centralia and he preceded her in death on May 22, 2014. She is survived by three sons: Rev. Brad Marcum and wife Cheryl of Indianapolis, IN, Greg Marcum and wife Pam of Centralia, and Chip Marcum of Centralia; a daughter: Gina Lynn Coulter and husband Jason of Centralia; ten grandchildren: Kenneth Marcum and wife Symeta of St. Louis, MO, Danielle Fauser and husband Jeff of Hanna City, Dr. Blake Marcum and wife Lindsay of Springfield, Bethany Jensen and husband Caleb of Indianapolis, IN, Christopher Woodward of Dyersburg, TN, Kenzie Tate and husband Curtis of Sandoval, Courtney Marcum of Bremerton, WA, Timothy Marcum and wife Ellia of Indianapolis, IN, Mason Marcum of Pana and Shelbee Coulter of Centralia; eight great-grandchildren; a sister: Naomi Lewis of Zephyr Hills, FL; a brother, David Killion and wife Cheryl of Johnston City; two brother-in-laws, Lyle (Fish) Marcum and wife Pat of Centralia and Bill Marcum of Centralia; 3 sister-in-laws: Iris Marcum of Champaign, Jean Cobb of Little Rock, AR, and Carol Marcum, and a special niece, Marty Golden of Spring Hill, FL; numerous nieces, nephews and special friends: Peggy, Marilyn and Lora. She was preceded in death by her parents, husband George, a brother: Charles Miner, her sister: Jill Tracy, three sister-in-laws: Marie Marcum, June Syznowski and Lila Keller, and two brother-in-laws: Roger Marcum and Dick Marcum. Karen graduated from Centralia Township High School in 1955. She co-owned Centralia Day Care with her sister-in-law, Marie, from 1969-1981. She then was employed as a teacher’s aide for Kaskaskia Special Education District until her retirement in 2002. Karen was a member of the First Christian Church (Disciples of Christ). She loved spending time with family and friends. Funeral Services for Karen Marcum will be held Monday, December 15, 2014 at 12:01 P.M. at the Sutherland-Garnier Funeral Home in Centralia with Pastor Tommy Henegar officiating. Burial will follow at Hillcrest Memorial Park in Centralia. Visitation will be held from 10:00 A.M. until the time of services. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the First Christian Church (Disciples of Christ) or to the American Cancer Society and will be accepted at Sutherland-Garnier Funeral Home in Centralia, which is in charge of arrangements.
