Pat Stephens

Pat Sloan (Case) Stephens, 102 of Centralia passed away Wednesday, December 17, 2014 at her home.She was born February 8, 1912 in Ada, Oklahoma, daughter of Pinkney Sloan Case and Pattie (Morgan) Case. She married Dr. Edward Franklin Stephens Jr. on February 6, 1931. He preceded her in death in 1993. Pat is survived by her daughter-in-law, Barbara (Butler) Stephens of Centralia; grandchildren: R. Minann (Stephens) Black of Magnolia Springs, AL; Pat Stephens Williams and husband Mark of Nacogdoches, TX; Edward F. Stephens IV and wife Melissa of Golden Eagle, IL; Alyson (Stephens) Wolz and husband Thomas of Carbondale, IL; R. Quintin Stephens and wife Jennifer of Katy, TX; James Stephens and wife Christina of Elizabethtown, KY; and William Stephens and wife Victoria of Southern Pines, North Carolina; twenty great-grandchildren and eight great-great grandchildren.She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, a son Dr. Edward Stephens III, a brother: Birch Case, and a sister: Ruth (Case) Byron.After attending University of Oklahoma at Norman and University of Tulsa, Pat moved to Centralia with her husband prior to WWII. Except for a brief time while her husband was stationed overseas, she made her life in Centralia. During WWII, Mrs. Stephens volunteered as a Red Cross “Gray Lady” at the naval hospital and was active in the USO in Norman, Oklahoma. Pat was a founding member of the “Pink Ladies” volunteers at St. Mary’s Hospital, a member of the Medical Auxiliary of AMA, and active member of the Daughters of the American Revolution, and the Philanthropic Education Organization. She was an avid golfer. Pat was a member of the First United Methodist Church in Centralia.Funeral services will be held Saturday, December 20, 2014 at 11:00 A.M. at the Sutherland-Garnier Funeral Home in Centralia with Rev. Rusty Beals officiating. Private family interment will follow at Hillcrest Memorial Park in Centralia. In Lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the First United Methodist Church or to the Celtic Hospice and will be accepted at Sutherland-Garnier Funeral Home in Centralia, which is in charge of arrangements.
