Marvin D. Guthrie

Marvin D. Guthrie, age 71, of Sandoval, IL, passed away on Saturday, July 18, 2015 in Barnes-Jewish Hospital, St. Louis, MO.Marvin was born on June 25, 1944 in Centralia, IL, a son to Edward O. “Coty” and Dorothy (Spears) Guthrie. On October 10, 1980, he married Judith A. Ragland in Nashville, IL and she survives.He is survived by his wife; three sons, Brent A. Guthrie and wife Janice of Carlyle, IL, Brian E. “Gooter” Guthrie and wife Lisa of Centralia, IL and Kevin P. Clark and wife Corrine of Wichita, KS; one daughter, Alicia E. Vinson and husband Darrell of Odin, IL; 13 grandchildren, Garett Guthrie, Macie Guthrie, Joshua Clark, Seth Clark, Nico Rodriguez, Maya Rodriguez, Samual, Oliver, and Keaton Vinson, Vanessa Vinson, Aquelio Vinson, Shani Vinson, D.J. Vinson, and Alexander Powers; two brothers, Wilson Dean Guthrie and Richard Lincoln; and three sisters, Sally Heyduck, Carol, and Brenda Hawkins.He was preceded in death by his parents, mother-in-law, granddaughter, Erin Powers; and step-mother, Effie (Story) Guthrie.Marvin was a member of Scott Lodge 79 in Carlyle, IL, Centralia Shrine Club, Scottish Rites in Belleville, IL, served as a member of the Amvets, and American Legion. He served in the United States Army from 1961-1967. Known as “Marvelous Marv”, he sold cars for numerous dealerships throughout his life and then worked at Murray Center in plant maintenance for many years. Marvin also enjoyed attending auctions and buying and selling antiques. He loved his animals and greatly enjoyed spending time with his family.Funeral services will be held on Wednesday, July 22, 2015 at 11:00 a.m. at Sutherland-Garnier Funeral Home with Pastor Steve Upchurch officiating. Entombment will follow at Hillcrest Memorial Park, Centralia, IL.Friends may call at the funeral home on Tuesday from 4:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. and again on Wednesday from 10:00 a.m. until the time of the service. Masonic Services will be accorded by Scott Lodge 79 of Carlyle, IL at 7:00 p.m. on Tuesday.Memorials may be made to the American Kidney Foundation, Centralia Humane Society or the donor’s choice and will be accepted at the funeral home.
