Edward J. Holsapple

Edward J. “Ed’ Holsapple, age 71, of Grand Island, FL, formerly of Salem, IL passed away January 4, 2020, at the Cornerstone Hospice House. He was the owner of Ed Holsapple Body Shop and Towing in Salem. He was a member of the First Baptist Church, Umatilla, FL. Ed had a deep love of family and his wife of 50 years. He had a special bond with each of his children and grandchildren. Ed would always make sure that his Grandchildren had candy, ice cream, and snack cakes when they would come over. He would always buy the grandkids special holiday candy too. Every visit with the grandkids was special, even with the ones he saw daily. He would always give them a big hug and say, “I love you” when they left, always adding “Be careful out there.” Ed showed servitude, compassion, mercy, and kindness to many. He would stop to help anyone, anytime, in need. Ed worked tirelessly to build an Auto Body Shop and Towing business that he could be proud of. He was a perfectionist at his art and knew more about towing than most people. He gave of himself to people either by fixing cars, free towing, or just a good ole story. He was a true people person. He would often say to people who tried to pay him for a towing job, “Oh, just give it to the church as a donation on Sunday.” After moving to Florida, he became a member of First Baptist Church of Umatilla, FL. He had the greatest respect for the operations of this Church. He would tell everyone he met that his church did so much community outreach and showed such love to others that they needed to come and see for themselves. He was one of a kind and if you were not fortunate enough to know Ed Holsapple, you truly missed a good man. He will be sorely missed by his wife, children, and grandchildren. There will be a memorial service honoring Ed’s life at 7:00 p.m., January 22, 2020, in the chapel of Sutherland – Rankin Funeral Home his son, with Aaron Holsapple officiating. Burial will be private. The family will gather to visit with friends from 4:00 p.m. until the service on January 22, 2020. Ed was born August 8, 1948, in Salem, the son of Olen Wade “Ted” and Bessie (Squibb) Holsapple. He married Jenny Kaiser, September 6, 1969, in Salem and she survives in Grand Island, FL along with their children, Aaron Holsapple and wife Audra of Indian Harbour, FL, Brian Holsapple and wife Stacy of Glen Carbon, IL, and Kelly Middleton and husband Aaron of Salem, IL. and their grandchildren Kaylie Wert and husband Jake, and Shawn Holsapple and wife Bre all of Indianapolis, Indiana, Jayla Middleton of Springfield, Illinois, Alyssa Middleton, and Jenna Middleton both of Salem, Illinois and Alexis Watts and Aleyah Watts both of Indian Harbour Beach, Florida. He has one great-grandchild, Ezran Holsapple of Indianapolis, Indiana. Also left to mourn Ed’s passing are his siblings, Jim Holsapple and wife Nyla, David Holsapple and wife Shirley, and June Morris all of Salem, Illinois. Also sisters-in-law, Carolyn Holsapple and Barbara Holsapple both of Salem, Illinois., In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by brothers Jack and Jerry Holsapple, and brother-in-law Bob Morris.
